Reference Material

The Reference Material list, unlike other lists, does not contain actions but information that you find interesting to have available at all times or during the execution of a task or a project.

You can store different types of reference material: a simple text, a link to a web page where the information resides, an attached file that you will be able to see anywhere.

It is highly recommended to classify the reference material using suitable tags, as they will allow you to quickly locate information related to a topic.

When you include links to other web pages in your Reference Material items, try to use full URLs and avoid using shortened URLs provided by services like bit.ly — no one guarantees that they will continue to work within a while.

Attaching files from Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, and Box

You can attach the files you need to any item in your lists. If you are a user of Microsoft OneDrive (Office 365), Google Drive, Dropbox or Box, you can attach to your actions any file you have stored on those platforms.

You do not need to set up any type of connection. Microsoft, Google, Dropbox, and Box, will request your credentials if you are not logged in at the time of attaching a file. Once the session is open, they will allow you to browse your files and select them.

To do this, use the Files option that you will see when editing any item in your lists. Then choose the “Web File” section and your favorite cloud platform, browse through your files and select the one you need. Give a clearly recognizable description if the original file name is not descriptive enough:

Attaching local files

You can also attach files that you have stored on your computer or internal network. Files attached to tasks will be available while the task is active, and will be automatically deleted from the system after the task is completed, since they are no longer needed and consume part of your storage quota.

However, the files you store in the Reference Material list will always be available.

To upload a local file, choose the “Local File” tab and look it up in your directory system. Give it a meaningful name.

attaching local files

You can attach to each item as many files as you need. There is a limit of 50MB per file. Also, the total amount of storage used by your files cannot exceed 5GB. At any time, you can check the amount of storage you are using in the Account section.

Projects and Evernote

In the Projects section you have also the possibility to associate an Evernote notebook to a project so that all its notes become part of the Reference Material of the project.
